VANS REVEALS NEW FOOTWEAR SILHOUETTE: THE SUPER LOWPRO
Mixing retro-sport and modern design for a style-forward footwear piece.
Vans has announced the release of the Super Lowpro, a brand-new footwear silhouette inspired by the 1980s athletic shoe line, Vans Serio. By merging archival design elements with a modern reinterpretation, the Super Lowpro embodies an understated coolness and adds effortless versatility to any wardrobe.
The shoe maintains a low profile and draws design cues from the original Vans Serio Competition Shoe Style 84. It features vintage details such as the zigzag eye stay, T-Toe shape, and the heritage Vans Serio tongue logo. Additionally, the midsole is designed to be extra low—a key feature of running shoes in the 1980s—while incorporating EVA foam for enhanced flexibility and lightweight cushioning. The silhouette also modernises the iconic Sidestripe with a two-layer design. The adaptability and subtle sleekness of the Super Lowpro makes it an ultimate closet staple.
The heritage Vans Serio collection offered versatile American-made footwear further connecting the brand to the spirit of sport culture in the era. The Vans Serio collection continues to be a meaningful source of inspiration for Vans styles and represents the brand’s early passion for conceptual design experimentation–a theme Vans continues to champion today.
“For inspiration, we dug deep into the Vans archives and discovered the Vans Serio collection, our vintage runner from the ‘80s,” says Angela Ardila Coutts, Head of Design, Advanced Concepts at Vans. “We were empowered to reinterpret the silhouette, so we set out to craft a low-profile sneaker paying homage to Vans’ heritage while connecting with today’s trendsetting catalysts.”
The Vans Super Lowpro retails at R 1,699 and is available to shop now on vans.co.za in Racing Red, Sepia Rose, Black, and Fairway Green.
